Roof Purlins and Wall Purlins are essential structural components used in steel structure construction systems. Designed to support roof and wall cladding, they provide outstanding strength, stability, and durability for industrial, commercial, and prefabricated buildings.
Manufactured from premium-quality galvanized or cold-formed steel, our purlins are engineered for high load-bearing performance, lightweight installation, and long-term corrosion resistance.
What Are Steel C & Z Purlins?
C and Z channel purlins are made of galvanized steel strips by cold-bending formed. They are widely used as secondary structural framing in steel structure buildings — supporting roof decking and wall cladding, transferring loads from covering materials to the main steel frame (H-beam columns/rafters).
C purlins are made of hot rolling steel sheet, and strictly under the cold roll formed by machine. Compare to traditional structural steel, C and Z purlins have thin wall, light weight, good section performance and high strength features.
What's the Difference Between C Purlin and Z Purlin?
| Comparison Item | C Purlin | Z Purlin |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Resembles letter "C" with a single web and two flanges, one open side | Zigzag "Z" profile with asymmetric flanges |
| Best Application | Wall framing, floor joists, small-span roofs | Roof construction, large-span industrial buildings |
| Strength | Standard bending resistance | Higher load-bearing capacity than C purlins thanks to overlapping capability; recommended priority in practical projects |
| Applicable Span | Short to medium span: 3–8 m | Medium to long span: 6–12 m |
| Common Standard Sizes | C80 – C250 | Z100 – Z300 |
| Professional Selection Tip | Ideal choice for wall structures and floor load-bearing parts | Perfect for steep-slope & long-span roofs. Z purlin with continuous lap is the top pick for large-span warehouse roofs |
We are a professional factory engaged in cold-formed steel purlin R&D and custom fabrication. We equip complete in-house cold roll forming lines. All production steps are independently finished in our workshop: coil feeding, roll forming, pre-punching, fixed-length cutting and final quality inspection. We can flexibly arrange production for small bulk and mass orders.

FAQ
Q1: C purlin vs Z purlin – which one should I choose?
A: Use C purlins for walls, use Z purlins for roofs. C purlins are ideal for wall framing and floor joists. Z purlins are specially used for large slope roofs and offer better continuous span performance. For large-span industrial roofs, Z purlin is the recommended choice.
Q2: Can you customize length and hole patterns?
A: Yes. We offer custom lengths up to 11.8m (for 40'HQ container). We can pre-punch round, oval, diamond, or square holes according to your CAD drawings. Send us your drawings and we'll produce exactly to your specs.
Q3: What zinc coating do you recommend for coastal environments?
A: Standard Z120 (120g/m²) for inland areas. For coastal regions (within 3km of sea) or high-humidity chemical plants, we recommend Z275 (275g/m²) hot-dip galvanized coating for 25+ years of corrosion protection.
Q4: How do you prevent damage during shipping?
A: Seaworthy packing with steel straps + corner protectors + wooden blocks between bundles. We also offer custom packaging upon request.
Q5: What is your lead time?
A: In-stock standard sizes: 3-7 days. Custom orders: 7-15 working days. For large quantity orders (50+ tons), please allow 15-25 days.
Q6: Do you provide Mill Test Certificate?
A: Yes. Every batch comes with Mill Test Certificate and Dimension Inspection Report. SGS / BV third-party inspection welcome.
